Bulldogs, Colts pick up victories

MILL CREEK — Tygarts Valley erupted for 11 runs in the second inning to cruise past Webster County, 21-3, in five innings of Monday.

Matthew Pratt had two hits and knocked in four runs to lead the Bulldogs, while Derrick Gear had two hits and three RBIs, Shaun Taylor three hits and Seth Currence and Noah Armstrong two hits apiece.

Currence went four innings to earn the win, allowing just three hits and one run, fanning 10 and walking three.

Payton McCourt took the loss for the Highlanders.

Zach Carpenter and McCourt had two hits each for the visitors.

Tygarts Valley (1-2) will visit Philip Barbour at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Liberty 2

PHILIPPI — Alex Wilson had three RBIs to lead Philip Barbour to a 12-2 victory over Liberty in five innings Monday in Big 10 Conference play.

Cody Cooper added two RBIs for the Colts (2-1, 2-1 Big 10), while Gage Bibey and Alfred Isch added run-producing doubles.

Braiden Short, Jesiah Matlick and Mason Halfin also knocked in runs.

Nick Hamrick went the first four innings to earn the win. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.

Jace Bartley took the loss for the Mountaineers, surrendering 12 runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. He fanned five and walked five.

Philip Barbour is scheduled to visit North Marion at 5 p.m. today.
