Elkins High girls place 12th, boys 20th at state swim meet
MORGANTOWN — The Elkins High School girls placed 12th and the boys 20th at the state swim meet held Tuesday at the Mylan Park Aquatic Center.
The Lady Tigers compiled 32 points in the meet.
Results for the Lady Tigers included Rachel Shryock seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:04.62) and 11th in the 100 freestyle (58.80), Hannah Phillips 16th in the 200 freestyle (2:15.88) and 16th in the 500 freestyle (6:09.51), Isabelle Judy 10th in the 200 IM (2:26.45) and 15th in the 100 butterfly (1:08.25), Joslyn DeWeese 14th in the 100 butterfly (1:08.24) and Addie Berdine 24th in the 100 freestyle (1:06.61).
Phillips, Berdine, Judy and Shryock were seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (4:05.79) and 10th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.91)
For the Lady Colts, Magnolia Shiflett was 13th in the 200 IM (2:30.01) and 13th in the 100 backstroke (1:05.56) and Madison Weese 14th in the 50 freestyle (28.08)
Weese, Raeanna Davies, Emily Durst and Shiflett were 13th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:53.56) and Weese, Angel Watson, Durst and Shiflett 12th in the 400 freestyle relay (4:14.41).
George Washington repeated as state champions with 201.5 points, while B-U (123) was fourth and Philip Barbour 25th (2).
The Lady Bucs were led by sophomore Cadence Vincent, who broke her own state record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.11 and also set a new mark in the 100 freestyle (50.39).
Cameron Zuliani was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.93) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.64).
The 200 medley relay (Vincent, Alayna Whitehair, Zuliani and McKenzie Reynolds) was second in a time of 1:53.09 and the same group was runner-up in the 200 freestyle relay with an effort of 1:40.30, just behind George Washington’s foursome, which set a new record with a time of 1:39.84.
The EHS boys tallied eight points in the competition.
Ivan Looney-Sanders was 13th in the 200 freestyle (2:06.24), Luke Anger 11th in the 100 butterfly (58.78), Braxton Kenney 24th in the 100 butterfly (1:15.33) and 19th in the 100 backstroke (1:10.66), Austin Whetsell 21st in the 100 freestyle (56.91) and Izaak Whetsell 22nd in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.12).
Kenney, Izaak Whetsell, Looney-Sanders and Tyler Ludwig were 17th in the 200 medley relay (2:00.32) and Austin Whetsell, Ludwig, Looney-Sanders and Anger 13th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.37) and 10th in the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.20).
George Washington defended its state title with 202 points.
B-U was sixth with 85 points as Preston Bennett placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:46.37) and second in the 500 freestyle (4:54.22) and Sam Squires fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.99).
Bennett, Owen Caynor, Squires and Reis Leonard were fifth in both the 200 medley (1:51.79) and 200 freestyle (1:36.14) relays.
