Hornets knock off Belington

BELINGTON — The Elkins Middle School varsity and junior varsity boys claimed wins over Belington on Wednesday evening.

The Hornets (6-4) captured the varsity contest, 49-41, as Jaxson Drennen scored 16 and A.J. Friedman added 10.

T.D. Bodkins had 25 points and Adam Bailey 10 for the Hawks.

“I was so proud of our effort,” EMS coach Brad Bennett said. “The boys played with a lot of heart and determination.”

The Hornets cruised to a 51-12 win in the JV contest.

Ethan Harner scored 13 and Ryan Jones 10 for EMS, which is now 6-3 on the season.

Mekhi Bennett had five and Jaden Raschella three for Belington.

Elkins return to action Monday at Tucker Valley. JV action is set to begin at 5:45 p.m.

Belington will entertain Tygarts Valley on Tuesday

Middle school girls

Lady Hornets best BMS

ELKINS — The Elkins Middle School varsity girls improved to 7-3 with a 19-15 win over Belington on Wednesday.

Mallory Bennett had five and Addy Cogar and Jaylen Tacy four each for the Lady Hornets.

Mackenna Halfin had five for the Lady Hawks.

“It was a good team win,” EMS coach Clint Bennett said. “We grinded it out on the defensive end.”

The Lady Hornets (8-1) won the junior varsity contest, 28-23.

Emma Gilbert had 10 points and Maura O’Neill seven for EMS.

Izzy Kratts had 11 points for the Lady Hawks.

Elkins was slated to visit Tucker Valley today but that game was canceled.

The Lady Hornets are now slated to host Taylor County on Tuesday, with JV action set for 5:45 p.m.
