Cold-shooting night dooms TV in 37-29 loss to Pocahontas County

MILL CREEK — A cold-shooting performance doomed Tygarts Valley as Pocahontas County claimed a 37-29 win in Class A, Region II, Section 2 play Tuesday night at Weber-Wamsley Court.

The Lady Bulldogs, who ended the season 8-7, shot just 25 percent from the floor.

Despite just bucketing three field goals over the first two quarters, Tygarts Valley trailed by just five, at 14-9, at halftime.

But the Lady Warriors came to life on the offensive end in the third frame, outscoring the hosts, 17-7, to build a 31-16 advantage entering the final quarter.

Senior Kierstin Taylor had the hot hand for Pocahontas County in the third, knocking down three 3-pointers and scoring 11 of her game-high 14 points in the decisive quarter.

Fellow senior Sienna Bircher also reached double figures with 12 points for the visitors.

Kendal Cutright and Isabelle Shumate led the Lady Bulldogs with seven points each.

Claire Smith, the lone senior on the Tygarts Valley roster, finished with five points.

Pocahontas County (5-8) will visit top-seed Pendleton County at 7 p.m. Friday in the sectional title game.
