Lady Colts pull away from Elkins

PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour placed four players in double figures in claiming a 60-40 win over Elkins Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Freshman Braylyn Sparks led the way for the Lady Colts (7-7) with 15 points, followed by Alyssa Hill with 14, Emily Denison with 11 and Averi Carpenter with 10.

Anna Belan and Autumn Lane each had 12 points for the Lady Tigers (1-10).

Philip Barbour used nine first-quarter points from Sparks in constructing a 16-7 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Colts carried a 29-17 cushion into the intermission before Elkins cut the deficit to nine, at 40-31, after three quarters.

Philip Barbour took the final frame, 20-9, to pull away.

Elkins is scheduled to host Buckhannon-Upshur on Thursday evening and visit Webster County on Friday to end the regular season.

The Lady Tigers are the fourth seed in the Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 tourney and will host fifth-seed Liberty on Monday.

The Lady Colts travel to East Fairmont this evening and Lewis County on Friday. They will visit East Fairmont Wednesday as the third seed in the Class AAA, Region II, Section 1 tourney next Wednesday.
