PB baseball, softball teams fall to RCB
CLARKSBURG — Philip Barbour opened the season with an 8-1 loss to Robert C. Byrd Monday in Big 10 Conference play.
The Colts were limited to just four hits in the game.
They trailed 7-0 after two innings as the Eagles struck for two runs in the first and five more in the second inning.
RCB, which had 12 hits in the game, plated its other run in the third to extend the lead to 8-0.
Austin Bolyard, Austyn Fletcher, Nick Hamrick and Braiden Short accounted for PB’s hits.
Mason Halfin had the team’s lone RBI in the fourth inning on a groundout to score Jacob Harris.
Jayden Herron took the loss on the mound for Philip Barbour in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Alfred Isch and Miles Hutzler also saw time on the mound in relief.
The Colts are slated to entertain Grafton at 5 p.m. today for another Big 10 encounter.
High school softball
RCB 5, PB 4, 9 innings
CLARKSBURG — Isabelle McKinsey’s walk-off homer in the ninth inning lifted Robert C. Byrd to a 5-4 win over Philip Barbour Monday in Big 10 Conference softball action.
The Lady Colts led 4-2 before the Lady Eagles tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning.
Sara Simon led PB at the plate as she went 2 for 3, with a solo homer in the first and a two-run shot in the third.
Lilley Criss, Hailee Poling and Preslee Fincham also recorded hits.
Alyssa Dunn added a pair of hits for RCB.
Simon took the loss in five innings of relief, allowing three runs on just two hits and fanning 12.
Lilley Criss started and went the first three innings, surrendering two runs on three hits and striking out one.
Fran Alvaro went all nine innings to earn the win. She gave up four runs on six hits and fanning 15.
Philip Barbour is scheduled to host Grafton at 5 p.m. today.
