Pendleton secures state tourney spot

FRANKLIN — Pendleton County placed four players in double figures in defeating East Hardy, 69-28, in a Class A, Region II co-final on Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (15-0) will be the third seed in the state tournament and face No. 6 Greenbrier West at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in quarterfinal action at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

Pendleton County enters the state tournament on a 38-game winning streak under coach Ryan Lambert.

Cole Day had 16 points, Bailey Thompson 12 and Braden McClanahan and Isaiah Gardiner 10 each for the Wildcats, who led 16-12 after one quarter and 29-20 at halftime.

Pendleton County blew the game open by outscoring the Cougars, 20-2, in the third and 20-6 in the fourth.

Christian Dove led East Hardy with eight points.

The other Class A quarterfinal matchups include No. 1 Man vs. No. 8 Tucker County, No. 2 Tug Valley vs. No. 7 Cameron and No. 4 Webster County vs. No. 5 Clay-Battelle.
