Tiger seniors get win on their night

ELKINS — On a night their careers were celebrated, Elkins High School’s senior players contributed early in deciding the outcome of Wednesday night’s victory over Pocahontas County at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Tigers started all five seniors — Mitchell Price, Trevor Chenoweth, Ben Boggs, Luke Jackson and Peyton Isner –and the group took control from the start, darting out to a 12-0 lead on the strength of four 3-pointers and Elkins was well on its way to a decisive an 87-42 win.

Chenoweth had the hot hand in the frame, hitting four treys and scoring 14 of his team-high 16 points in the first quarter alone.

Jackson added eight in the opening frame, while Price hit for six, Boggs five and Isner three.

All 12 players dressed reached the scoring column on the night for the Tigers as they built a 36-11 after one quarter and led 54-24 at halftime.

Price followed Chenoweth with 12 points in the victory.

Sean Beverage had 20 and Jamie Vandevender 16 for the Warriors, who fell to 1-8 on the season and will travel to Tygarts Valley Tuesday in Class A, Region II, Section 2 play.

The Tigers improved to 8-8 and will now visit Keyser at 6:30 p.m. Friday in a game scheduled this week after Monday’s game at Trinity was cancelled.
