Tigers drop road tilt to Polar Bears; PB softball cruises
FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior plated 15 runs over the first two innings to coast to a 17-3 five-inning win over Elkins Tuesday in Big 10 Conference play.
Kyle Wyatt had an RBI double in the first and a two-run single in the fourth to lead the Tigers (0-6, 0-4 Big 10).
Dustyn Primavero added a pair of hits in the loss.
Will Runyan had a two-run homer for the Polar Bears (2-1, 2-1).
Kyle Brubaker scattered three runs on seven hits to earn the win. He struck out four and walked four.
Owen Haddix took the loss for Elkins in 1/3 of an inning.
Gavin Carr, Cameron Biller and Gage Huffman all saw time in relief.
Fairmont Senior led 7-0 after the first inning and 15-1 after two. The Polar Bears tacked on two runs in the third.
The Tigers are slated to visit Robert C. Byrd on Thursday for another league contest.
PB 13, North Marion 4
RACHEL — A six-run second inning propelled Philip Barbour to a 13-4 win over North Marion Tuesday in a Big 10 Conference matchup.
The Lady Colts (3-1, 3-1 Big 10) held a 3-2 lead after one inning before the second-inning outburst.
Sara Simon had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and knocked in three to pace Philip Barbour. Lilley Criss added three hits and Hailee Poling and Bella Bibey two RBIs apiece.
Criss and Poling had doubles and Katie Kennedy and Amanda Reed also batted in runs.
Reed went the first four innings to earn the win, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out four with no walks.
Simon struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth to end the game due to the mercy rule.
Izzy Brescoach was tagged with the loss as she gave up 13 runs on 11 hits in going the distance.
She also had two hits at the plate.
The Lady Colts will entertain undefeated Lincoln at 5 p.m. Thursday for another Big 10 encounter.
