Top-ranked Gilmer gets by No. 2 Tucker

Union rallies in fourth to best TV girls

HAMBLETON — In a battle of the two top-ranked teams in Class A, No. 1 Gilmer County rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat No. 2 Tucker County, 63-54, on Wednesday night.

The Lady Mountain Lions carried a 34-29 lead into the intermission and led 45-44 after three quarters.

The Lady Titans then took the final frame, 19-9.

“We played well tonight against a great Gilmer County team,” Tucker County coach Dave Helmick said. “We just made some mistakes down the stretch and you can’t do that against them.

“Give Gilmer credit. They fought us the whole way and made the plays in the fourth quarter to pull away and get the win, but I’m proud of my girls … they played well and fought hard.”
