Bulldogs cruise past Irish, 13-3

MILL CREEK — Matthew Pratt tossed four scoreless innings of relief as Tygarts Valley cruised to a 13-3 win over Notre Dame on Thursday night.

Pratt didn’t allow a hit, struck out five and walked three after taking over for starter Brandon Mahoney in the second inning.

After the Irish plated three runs in the bottom of the first, the Bulldogs answered with six runs in the home-half of the inning.

Noah Armstrong and Garrett Gibson had RBI singles in the opening inning, Brandon Bennett an RBI sacrifice fly and Mahoney and Seth Currence drew bases-loaded walks.

Bennett cracked a two-run homer, Armstrong a run-producing single and Mahoney another free pass with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 10-3 in the third.

Armstrong had an RBI free pass in the fourth, while Riley Tackett a two-run single.

Armstrong had two hits for the Bulldogs, while Gibson scored three runs on the evening from the lead-off spot.

Freshman Preston Heslep took the loss for Notre Dame, allowing six runs on just one hit in not recording an out in the first inning. He was plagued by five walks.

Santino Earl’s two-run single in the first inning was the lone hit for the Irish, who are now 3-8.

Tygarts Valley (5-4) is scheduled to visit East Hardy at 4 p.m. today for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs will remain on the road Monday at Pendleton County.
