Lady Colts defeat Fairmont Senior
FAIRMONT –Sara Simon drove in four runs to lift Philip Barbour to a 9-5 win over Fairmont Senior Saturday in Big 10 Conference play.
Simon, who had a two-run single in the first, cracked a two-run homer in the fifth to break a 4-4 tie.
Preslee Fincham added two RBIs and Katie Kennedy and McKenzie Moss on RBI each for the Lady Colts.
Mikayla Shepherd had a homer and a triple for the Lady Polar Bears.
Simon earned the win in four innings of relief, allowing just one run on one hit and fanning eight.
Lilly Criss went the first four innings. She gave up four runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one.
Philip Barbour (6-1, 6-1 Big 10) is slated to host Buckhannon-Upshur at 5 p.m. today.

PB baseball loses
BRIDGEPORT –Philip Barbour dropped games to Spring Mills and Hedgesville on Saturday.
The Colts fell to Spring Mills, 5-4, in their first game of the day at Bridgeport High School as Cayden Compton’s walk-off RBI single in the eighth inning was the difference.
Braiden Short had three hits in the loss, including a two-run single to highlight a four-run fifth inning that tied the game at 4-4. Cody Cooper also knocked in a run.
Alex Wilson took the loss in 2/3 inning of relief. Cooper went the first 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and fanning 11.
Tyler Gilpin had a two-run homer in a four-run third inning for the Cardinals.
In Saturday’s second game at Frank Loria Field, Philip Barbour dropped an 8-1 verdict to Hedgesville.
Kyle West had two hits and drove in two for the Eagles.
Nick Hamrick had an RBI double for the Colts’ lone run.
Jesiah Matlick was saddled with the loss in 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four and walking four.
Philip Barbour (5-6) is slated to host Buckhannon-Upshur at 5 p.m. today for a Big 10 Conference contest.
