Philip Barbour picks up 10-0 win over Tigers

PHILIPPI — Alex Wilson tossed a five-inning one-hitter and Nick Hamrick drove in a pair of runs runs to help Philip Barbour blank Elkins, 10-0, Thursday night in a Big 10 Conference encounter.

Wilson struck out six and walked two. His teammates gave him all the run support he needed with a four-run first inning.

Austin Bolyard drew a walk to start the first and scored when Hamrick singled and advanced to third on an error.

After Cody Cooper was hit-by-a-pitch, Wilson grounded out to plate Hamrick to make it 2-0.

Cooper and Alfred Isch, who had singled, later scored on errors to extend the lead to 4-0.

The Colts picked up two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to end the game due to the mercy rule.

A pair of Tiger errors and Hamrick’s RBI single in the fourth made it 6-0.

In the fifth, Jesiah Matlick crossed a run on a suicide squeeze, another scored on an error and Cooper ended the game with an RBI single.

Hamrick, Braiden Short and Isch each had two hits.

Gage Huffman went four innings in taking the loss. He gave up eight runs, five being earned, on six hits with two strikeouts.

Cole Shreve had the lone hit for the Tigers ( 0-11 and 0-8 Big 10). They will host Lincoln at 6 p.m. today.

Philip Barbour (6-6, 4-3) will entertain Petersburg at noon Saturday for a doubleheader.
