ELKINS — Allegheny Insurance captured the Elkins Elks Babe Ruth Fuzz Jones City Tournament championship with a 12-11 win over Broughton’s Sports Saturday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Allegheny, who finished the tournament with a 3-0 record, scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Derrek Gear drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Jackson Wilson.

Gavin Carr earned the victory on the mound in relief for Allegheny. Kyle Wyatt, Charlie Brown and Wilson had three hits each to fuel the winners at the plate.

Allegheny capped off a stellar season with victory as it carried an 18-2 regular-season record into the tourney. Its only two losses of the season came at the hands of Broughton’s, which finished 11-9 during season play and 3-2 in the Fuzz Jones Tournament.

Broughton’s rolled to an 8-1 win over Citizens Bank in an elimination-game Friday night to move on to the title contest. Brandon Mahoney notched the win on the hill in that contest, fanning eight batteries in three innings pitched. Cooper Smith and Adam Bailey led the offense with two hits each.

In Saturday’s tilt, Smith finished with four hits, while Mahoney and Rylan Wimer had three apiece for Broughton’s, who held an 11-9 hits advantage in the game.

Allegheny took a comfortable 10-5 lead into the sixth inning when Broughton’s rallied and scored six times to take an 11-10 advantage. Allegheny scored in the home half of the sixth inning to tie things back up before crossing the game-winning run in the seventh inning.
