Area teams hit the road for Week 4
ELKINS — Tygarts Valley and Tucker County face tough road contests this evening in Week 4 of the high school football season.
The Bulldogs battle Moorefield, while the Mountain Lions tangle with East Hardy.
Lucas Bright threw for a pair of scores and Nate Hulver rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns as Tygarts Valley (2-1) claimed a 43-14 win at Webster County last Friday.
The Cougars enter the contest 3-0 and second in the initial WVSSAC Class A ratings released on Tuesday.
Mason Miller had four touchdown passes in East Hardy’s 46-0 win over Tucker County last week.
The Mountain Lions (1-2) look to get their offense on track against the 15th-rated Yellow Jackets, who are coming off a 46-6 road win against Southern (Md.).
In other action tonight, Buckhannon-Upshur visits Greenbrier East and Philip Barbour travels to Clarksburg to face Liberty.
Elkins is idle.
The Bucs and Colts met last Friday in Philippi, with the visitors escaping with a 27-16 victory on Bryson Johnston’s 100-yard interception for a TD as time expired and PB driving.
Savion Farmer scampered for 160 yards on the ground and added a pair of rushing scores for B-U, which gave first-year head coach Zach Davis his initial win at the helm.
Greenbrier East enters the contest with a 2-1 mark and rated 13th in Class AAA. The Spartans are coming off a 31-16 setback to another Big 10 Conference squad in Robert C. Byrd.
The Colts made their season debut last week under first-year coach Nick Mayle against the Bucs.
DeShawn Webster and Jesiah Matlick accounted for the touchdowns in the setback.
Webster, who had two scores on the night, led the Colts on the ground with 113 yards.
Liberty, which is led by running backs Hunter Davisson, Preston Buckhannon and Jayce Clevenger, brings a 1-2 mark into the contest after dropping a 54-6 decision to Bridgeport last Friday.
