ELKINS –The Elkins Middle School varsity volleyball squad stayed undefeated on the season with a three-set win over Robert L. Bland Thursday night at EMS gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets, playing their fourth game in six days, took the first set, 25-15, before dropping a 25-17 decision to set up a deciding third set, captured by the hosts by a 25-17 verdict.

Maddy Zirkle led EMS with 16 service points, followed by Jayla Reams with 10 and Hannah Currence with eight.

Peyton Wright led the Lady Hornets to a three-set win in the JV match with nine service points, while Samantha White, Leah Ours and Lakin McCauley tallied seven each.

“They were both great games,” EMS coach Bobby Reams said. “In the varsity match, serving was the difference against a good Robert L. Bland team.”

Elkins is now 4-0 in varsity action on the season, while the JV squad is 1-3.

The Lady Hornets remain home on Tuesday to battle Belington Middle School.

Junior varsity action is slated for 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match.
