Elkins girls pick up 4-1 win over RCB
Lady Colts earn road victory
ELKINS — Elkins ran its winning streak to 10 straight games with a 4-1 victory over Robert C. Byrd Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play at EHS field.
The Lady Tigers (10-1-0) took a 2-1 lead into the intermission on a goal by Addy Cogar and self goal committed by the Lady Flying Eagles.
Cogar tallied her second goal of the night to extend the lead to 3-1 and Alexa Triplett later added an insurance score.
“We came out really flat in this game and fell behind 1-0,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “Once we settled in and found a little more intensity, we were able to play at a higher level.
“I’m proud of the way the girls came out in the second half and were able to put the game away.”
The Lady Tigers return to the pitch at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grafton.
PB 6, Lincoln 0
SHINNSTON — Philip Barbour pulled away in the second half for a 6-0 win over Lincoln Thursday night in Big 10 Conference girls soccer action.
Braylyn Sparks and Macie Satterfield found the back of the net in the opening half for the Lady Colts.
Arrington Sparks provided the assist on the first goal and Braylyn Sparks on the latter.
Lydia Phillips, Graylin Floyd, Cheyenne Kittle and Riley McCartney picked up goals in the second half for Philip Barbour.
It was Kittle’s first career goal.
Arrington Sparks, Satterfield and Layna Grassi added assists.
Sara Simon and Avery Swiger combined for the shutout in goal.
The Lady Colts (4-1-0) are slated to host Pocahontas County at 5:30 p.m. today.
