Blake one of few veteran players for Tigers

ELKINS — Lane Blake was one of the few holdovers returning for the Elkins High School football team this fall.

The Tigers returned just a handful of starters from last season’s squad, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class AA state playoffs.

Blake, a senior, recorded five total tackles in the loss to Robert C. Byrd in the quarterfinals.

He finished the 2020 campaign with four sacks.

Blake has also been one of the top receivers for the Tigers this season. He also plays on special teams.

At 6-foot-4, Blake has utilized his height in presenting a big target for the Tiger passing game.

Elkins is 0-7 on the season after last week’s game at Lincoln was canceled. The Cougars were awarded a forfeit victory.

The Tigers have three games left in the season.

Elkins is scheduled to visit Frankfort this Friday night and then remain on the road at defending Class AA state champion Fairmont Senior on Oct. 29.

The Tigers will conclude the regular season Nov. 5 at home against longtime rival Buckhannon-Upshur.

The game will mark only the second game to be played at the new field on the EHS campus.

The Tigers fell to North Marion in their first contest at EHS.
