Elkins boys hold off Mountaineer

ELKINS — The Elkins Middle School boys claimed a 2-1 win over Mountaineer Tuesday night at River Bend Park.

Caden Boland had the first goal off an assist from Kaden George for the Hornets, who are now 5-3-0, while George later scored off a rebound.

The Lady Hornets dropped a 7-0 verdict to Lincoln in Tuesday’s opening match to fall to 1-7-0 on the campaign.

On Monday, the EMS boys claimed a 1-0 win at West Fairmont. The lone goal came when Major Chewning converted off a pass from George midway through the first half.

Bobby Valentine had 19 saves in goal, while Teagan Schaefer had a key heading save at the goalpost in the final minute.

The EMS girls lost a 3-0 decision to West Fairmont.

Both teams will be back in action Thursday at Robert L. Bland.
