ELKINS — The Elkins Middle School volleyball team celebrated eighth-grade night with a three-set victory over Mountaineer Tuesday night at EMS gym.

The Lady Hornets, who are now 8-3, won the first set, 25-16, before the visitors from Harrison County claimed a 25-14 win to set up a deciding finale, which EMS claimed a 25-19 decision, rallying from a 12-6 deficit.

“We came out strong in the first set, then had a letdown (in the second set),” Lady Hornets coach Bobby Reams said. “But the girls rallied in the third set and came back on a roll.”

Serving leaders in the win were Anna Currence, Maura O’Neil and Madison Shreve, while Jayla Reams, Jasmin Workman and Jaden Workman led the net attack.

Elkins also claimed a 2-0 (25-11, 26-24) in the preliminary junior varsity match and was led in serving by Samantha White, Leah Ours and Aubrey Currence.

“It was a great effort by our JV team,” coach Reams said. “Everyone played great.”

The EMS varsity squad will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur at 7 p.m. today.
