Webster powers Colts to win over Liberty

Senior rushes for over 200 yards, four TDs in 35-10 Big 10 victory

PHILIPPI — DaShawn Webster powered Philip Barbour to a 35-10 victory over Liberty Friday night in Big 10 Conference action at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park.

Webster had over 200 yards rushing and found the end zone four times on the night, including a 99-yard score in the second quarter.

The senior started the scoring with 7:44 left in the first quarter when he went in from seven yards out. Layna “Turkey” Grassi added the conversion kick.

The Mountaineers got on the board late in the canto when Jensen Dodd hit a 25-yard field goal.

The Colts answered with 9:35 left until halftime when Webster broke loose for a 24-yard score to make it 14-3 after Grassi’s conversion kick.

A key moment in the contest came after the Philip Barbour defense stopped Liberty on downs at the Colt 1-yard line.

Webster then busted loose for 99 yards to paydirt as Philip Barbour carried a 21-3 advantage into the intermission.

After a scoreless third quarter, Webster rambled 55 yards for his fourth score of the night to extend the lead to 28-3 with 2 minutes elapsed on the fourth-quarter clock.

The Mountaineers answered when Brock Benedum’s long return on the ensuing kickoff set up a 3-yard touchdown run by Landon Clevenger with 7:41 left in the game to cut the deficit to 28-10.

The Colts tacked on a TD by Patrick Webster to finish the scoring.

Philip Barbour halted a two-game losing skid to improve to 2-2 on the season.

The Colts will take to the road next Friday night at Elkins in the renewal of a longtime rivalry.

Liberty dropped to 1-2 on the campaign and will be at home against Grafton on the same evening.
