ELKINS — Class AA-A, second ranked East Fairmont handed Elkins a 2-0 setback Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play at Tiger Stadium.

The Lady Bees scored both of their goals in the opening half.

“This was a very good East Fairmont team, well deserving of a No. 2 state ranking,” Lady Tigers coach Scott Cutright said. “We had some difficulty adjusting to their high tempo pace in the beginning of the game, which ultimately found us chasing the game throughout.

“We have a tough two weeks before playoffs begin, so we need to get back on track quickly.”

Elkins is now 10-3-1 and will remain home at 7:30 p.m. Monday to face Pocahontas County.

In the preliminary boys match, a pair of first-half goals stood as Elkins claimed a 2-0 win over third-ranked East Fairmont.

Andrew Tesar headed in a free kick from Tucker Cutright in the 12th minute to make it 1-0, then Hayden Ferguson converted after taking a crossing pass from Cutright 4 minutes later.

“We played a great game tonight against the No. 3 team in the state,” Tigers coach Scott Cutright said. “The boys really needed this win after dropping so many close games over the past few weeks.

“We finished our chances on goal and did an incredible job defending, especially late in the game.”

Elkins (7-6-1) hosts Pocahontas County at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
