ELKINS — The Philip Barbour and Elkins High School girls soccer teams came together on a sunny Thursday afternoon at Tiger Stadium for a great cause.

The Big 10 Conference rivals participated in a “Shoot Out Cancer” game, with proceeds from the match being donated to the Davis House.

“Both schools agreed to do this for a wonderful cause,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “It’s a great day to play soccer and to raise some money for the Davis House.”

The Davis House offers cancer patients a “home away from home” when it’s necessary to travel to the Davis Medical Center Cancer Center for treatment.

The stands were packed with students from both Elkins High School and Midland Elementary School on Thursday afternoon.

On the field, the home spectators were treated to a 3-0 win by the Lady Tigers, who bounced back from Tuesday night’s 5-0 loss to Bridgeport.

Audrina Shelton tallied the first score in the 22nd minute of first half off an assist from Addy Cogar.

Elkins added two goals in the second half.

Cogar assisted Lilly Betler in the 31st minute to make it 2-0, and Maddie Belan found the net directly from a corner kick 6:00 later.

The Lady Tigers finished the regular season 13-4-1 and will be the top seed in next week’s Class AA-A, Region II, Section 2 tourney, hosting Braxton County at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Lady Colts fell to 5-10-1 and are slated to visit Nicholas County at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
