Hornets advance to championship
ELKINS — The sixth-seeded Elkins Middle School boys soccer team advanced to the Mid-Mountain 10 Conference championship game with a 2-1 win over Taylor County on Thursday night.
The Hornets will face East Fairmont at 9 a.m. Saturday at Bridgeport for the title.
Kolton ward scored 11 minutes into the game to give Elkins a 1-0 lead.
After Taylor County scored off a free kick with just under 10 minutes to go in the match, Luke Valentine scored after taking a pass from Ward with 1:43 left to play.
The Hornets advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 win over Buckhannon-Upshur earlier this week, getting goals from Ward and Valentine. Samuel Belan assisted Valentine’s score with just 2 minutes left to play.
