Lady Warriors get past Lady Bulldogs in battle of ranked teams

MILL CREEK — In a Class A battle of ranked team and regional foes, No. 5 Pocahontas County used a big third quarter to get past No. 9 Tygarts Valley, 67-61, Monday evening at Weber-Wamsley Court.

The Lady Bulldogs controlled play early, leading 17-13 after one quarter and entering halftime with a 32-30 edge.

But the Lady Warriors outscored Tygarts Valley 19-8 in the third quarter to take a 49-40 advantage into the final frame.

Three players reached double figures for the Lady Bulldogs, led by Summer Lewis Smith with 15.

Emily Smith chipped in 14 and Sarah Defibaugh 10.

Alexis Arbogast poured in 16 points for Pocahontas County, followed by Riley Pollack and Savana Sharp with 10 each.

Tygarts Valley (5-3) travels to Notre Dame at 6 p.m. today for a varsity-only contest.

The Lady Warriors (6-2) are also in action at 7:30 p.m. today with a game against Webster County.
