ELKINS — Dylan Hinzman scored 10 of his team-high 19 points in the final quarter as Elkins returned to action for the first time in 19 days to pull away from Philip Barbour, 55-44, Tuesday night inside Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
The Tigers (2-3) last saw action on Dec. 27, while the Colts were coming off a setback to the hands of visiting Petersburg on Monday evening.
Tuesday’s contest was normal in regards of a battle between the longtime rivals, as a close encounter on the scoreboard proved true until Elkins was able to gain control in the final quarter.
Searching for its initial win of the season, Philip Barbour held the lead for most of the first quarter until Lucas D’Angelo drained a 3-pointer right before the horn to treat the Tigers to a 16-14 cushion.
D’Angelo had 11 points in the game.

However, the Colts went on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter which ended on a trey by Hinzman with 5:36 left until halftime.
The teams continued to go back-and-forth on the scoreboard as Elkins took a 27-25 lead into the intermission.
Patrick Webster had 18 of his game-high 20 points over the first two quarters for Philip Barbour, with Levi Wanless tallying 11 first-half markers for the hosts.
Wanless finished with 14 on the night.
Hinzman came alive on the scoring end in the second half for the Tigers, especially in the first quarter, with his 10 markers.
After holding a slim 38-35 lead after three quarters, Elkins held a 17-9 scoring edge in the final canto to take its largest lead at game’s end at 11 points.
Logan Watson and Malachi Poling chipped in 10 points each for the Colts, who dropped to 0-7 and are slated to entertain Robert C. Byrd this evening, weather permitting.
The Tigers are slated to host Class A, No. 1 Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a makeup game.
