Weathering the Schedule

Area athletic directors, coaches tasked with making up contests

The Inter-Mountain photo by Joey Kittle Tygarts Valley’s Kaden Moore looks for an open teammate against Pendleton County in a game from December. The Bulldogs have not played a contest in over 10 days because of the weather.

ELKINS — Area athletic directors and coaches are scrambling to reschedule games after the recent rash of bad weather.

“We haven’t had practice since Saturday,” Tygarts Valley boys coach Tom Wamsley said. “(The weather) is really hard on us mountain schools.”

The Class A, No. 8 Bulldogs (4-1) were slated to visit Pendleton County this evening for a key regional matchup. That game has been moved to Feb. 21.

Their Mason-Dixon Conference game at Clay-Battelle was also postponed this week until Jan. 15.

The TV girls, meanwhile, will now host Pendleton County on Feb. 25 after tonight’s contest was postponed.

The Lady Bulldogs (5-2) entered The Associated Press rankings at eighth this week.

Both Elkins squads have also been idle for nearly two weeks.

The Tigers (1-3) were to host North Marion on Thursday night, with that game now rescheduled for Feb. 22. They are tentatively set to entertain Class A, No. 1 Tucker County at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Class AAA, No. 9 Lady Tigers are off to a 6-1 start for the first time in over 30 years.

Winners of six straight, Elkins hasn’t been in action since winning a tourney at Robert C. Byrd back on Dec. 28.

The Lady Tigers are currently slated to visit North Marion this evening, — weather pending — and venture to Philip Barbour on Jan. 15.

Their postponed game at home against RCB from Wednesday is now set for 4 p.m. on Jan. 25.

Starting at $3.92/week.
