Mountaineers defeat Towson, 16-5

MORGANTOWN — Sophomore Spencer Barnett hit two home runs, including a game-ending grand slam, on Tuesday afternoon as the West Virginia University baseball team defeated Towson, 16-5, in eight innings at Kendrick Family Ballpark.

The Mountaineers improved to 15-1 on the season while the Tigers fell to 4-12.

In addition to Barnett’s big day, freshman Gavin Kelly finished the game with two hits and three RBI. Juniors Skylar King and Ben Lumsden each drove in two runs while King also stole two bases, part of six on the day for the Mountaineers.

West Virginia will be back in action on Friday for the start of a three-game series at Oklahoma State to open Big 12 play.
