Wildcats overcome slow start to earn win over Union, 61-45

FRANKLIN — Fourth-seed Pendleton County overcame a slow start to hand fifth-seed Union a 61-45 setback Friday night in Class A, Region II action.

The Wildcats trailed 14-10 after the opening quarter but outscored the Tigers, 21-7, in the second frame to construct a 31-21 halftime lead.

The advantage grew to 45-31 after three quarters.

Travis Owens fired in 18 points and Josiah Kimble added 16 for the Wildcats, who will visit top-seed Tucker County at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a regional final.

Tygarts Valley travels to East Hardy in the other regional final.

Braylon Ward had 17 points and Jacob Haynes added 10 for Union in the setback.
