Polar Bears hand Colts first loss of the season, 8-5

PHILIPPI — Fairmont Senior scored six runs over the first three innings to hand Philip Barbour its first loss of the season, 8-5, Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play.

Trailing 6-0, the Colts picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the third when Tyler Sisson singled in Kale Wolfe and Grant Harris’ groundout plated Nick Gonzales.

Sisson’s run-producing single in the fifth made it 6-3.

The Polar Bears picked up a pair of runs in the sixth on Cam Peschl’s RBI single and an error.

The Colts, however, loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, scoring a pair of runs when Kale Wolfe drew a walk and Gonzales hit into an RBI fielder’s choice.

But Brayden Gorby worked around a one-out walk in the seventh to end the game.

Logan Canfield went the first six innings to earn the win, allowing five runs on 10 hits, striking out eight and walking three.

Grant Harris was tagged with the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits, fanning one and walking four.

Sisson led Philip Barbour with three hits.

Matt Masters had a pair of RBIs for Fairmont Senior.

The Colts (8-1) visit Preston today for another league game.
