West Virginia State 6
Prior to Thursday morning’s game, Frostburg State ace Patrick Bauer was honored as the 2025 MEC Pitcher of the Year. Then, a pair of All-MEC first teamers — WVSU’s Kyle Waters and Nate Paulsen — each hit two-run homers off of Bauer to put the Bobcats in a four-run hole.
From that, Bauer settled and Frostburg State rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, four in the bottom of the seventh, and two more in the eighth to rally for the win.
Bauer enjoyed five scoreless innings outside of the two longballs, and the Frostburg State offensive was triggered by a pair of its own All-MEC first team hitters: Jackson Schalick and Mikey Guy. Schalick connected on a three-run home run in the fourth, and Guy blasted a two-run shot in the eighth to provide the Bobcats with insurance.
Waters finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, and Paulsen added two hits and two RBIs. Guy was 2-for-4 with two runs for Frostburg State, which will meet MEC North Division champion UC this afternoon.
Fairmont State 12, Concord 2
The Falcons survived its first elimination game, ending the Mountain Lions’ season in seven innings.
Fairmont State scored four in the first and three each in the third and seventh to win by 10 runs.
Ryan Goff finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and the heart of the order — Quintin Smith, Noah Canterbury, and Quintin Reep — each added a pair of hits as Fairmont State cruised. Canterbury also had a homer and three RBIs, and Reep homered and drove in two.
Tyler Wilkinson earned the win for Fairmont State, which advances to face top overall seed Point Park on Friday. Wilkinson pitched all seven innings, scattered five hits, allowed two runs, and struck out four Concord batters against one walk.
Both runs he allowed came on solo homers by Concord, both of which came in the top of the seventh inning.
