TENNERTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five individuals and one team at the annual banquet at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets for the Hall of Fame banquet may be obtained from HOF Chairman Jim Marsh at 304-472-6909 or at B-UHS.

Tickets are $15 each and must be purchased in advance as no tickets will be sold at the door.

The five individual inductees include Brian Bergstrom, Terry Brake, Lauren Cvechko, Mackenzie Leigh and J.R. Tenney.

Bergstrom is a 1999 graduated of B-UHS and participated in track, cross country and soccer from 1996-1999. He was a member of the Yale University track team from 1999-2002.

Brake, a 1973 graduate of B-UHS, was the B-U football trainer/equipment manager from 1969-1973. He was the first athletic trainer in B-U school history. At Fairmont State University, he served as athletic trainer in 1978-79.

Cvechko, a 2012 graduate of B-UH, participated in soccer and track and field from 2009-2012. At West Virginia Wesleyan, she was a member of the track team from 2012-2016.

Leigh, a 2014 graduate of B-UHS, played volleyball, basketball and participated in track and field from 2011-2014. At Ashland University, she was a track and field All-American in 2019.

Tenney, a 2008 graduate of B-UHS, played four years of baseball and three years of basketball for the Bucs. His baseball career continued at Seton Hill University and West Virginia Wesleyan College.

In addition, the 1958 B-UHS baseball team will be honored.

The Bucs compiled an 18-1 overall record, while winning the sectional and regional tournaments.

In the sectional, they defeated Weston and Philippi high schools. in the regional tourney, they were victorious over Bridgeport and University.

At the high school state tournament, the squad defeated Benwood-Union but suffered their only loss of the season to Stonewall Jackson in the semifinals.

The 2025 inductees will be introduced at halftime of tonight’s University at B-U football game at Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.
