DHS Foundation awards scholarships

2 min read

ELKINS -- Two local teens recently received scholarships awarded by the Davis Health System Foundation. Pocahontas County High School student Ryan Irvine was awarded the DHS Foundation Scholarship, and Tygart Valley High School's Hannah Haddix received the 2017 Linda Davis Memorial Scholarship.

The $500 scholarship awarded to Irvine was inspired by Dr. Mason Todd Corder's care for his patients and passion for helping others enter the medical field. The DHS Foundation Scholarship recognizes and supports students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievement and community service and are continuing their studies in a healthcare related field. It is presented annually to deserving student from Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, Upshur, Pocahontas or Webster counties.

Irvine will attend West Virginia University this fall and will enter the nursing program.

The Linda Davis Memorial Scholarship, received by Haddix, is given in memory of Davis Medical Center employee Linda Davis who touched countless lives throughout our community as a beloved cheerleading coach for many years. This $500 scholarship is awarded annually to a young man or woman who has been involved in cheerleading as an extra-curricular activity during their senior year and has resided in Randolph County for at least four years.

Haddix plans to attend West Virginia University this fall and will study exercise physiology. After obtaining a bachelor's degree, she intends to apply to the WVU School of Dentistry.
