Meador
Destiny Meador, the 2018 Valedictorian of Tucker County High School, is currently pursuing a degree in Plant Sciences as a Traditions Fellow at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She has completed her first semester with a 4.02 GPA, earning her a spot on the Dean's List.
As stated on the CALS web site, "Each semester undergraduate students are recognized for academic excellence by inclusion of the Dean's List. Eligibility for the Dean's list in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is determined by the following criteria: A minimum course load for the semester of 12 letter-graded credits; Achievement of a semester GPA of at least 3.50…"
She is planning her Plant Sciences major concentration to be "Plant Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology" so she can pursue high-end genetic engineering to develop disease-resistant varieties of crops, plants that are more tolerant of weather conditions such as dry/hot/cold climates, modifications to plants for pharmaceutical purposes, new varieties of flowering plants, etc., and is considering extending into genetic engineering for people -- such as for cancer treatment.
She is also planning to attempt to double major in Applied Economics and Management -- but will have to apply to do this near the end of this spring semester of fall of her sophomore year. If not able to do so, then she will do this as a minor.
Her long-term goal is to start her own company specializing in these areas and to market her plant varieties and products globally -- thus the added interest in the Applied Economics and Management major.
She is an entrepreneur who has operated her own small plant sales business for the last six years -- she loves plants and entrepreneurship and wants to take them to the highest level.
She is the daughter of Andrew and Vaia Meador of St. George in Tucker County.
