Missing man’s body found

Epling

CANAAN VALLEY — Tucker County officials confirmed late Wednesday that they have recovered the body of Raymond E. Epling, who went missing from the Mirror Lake Drive area Sunday.

Epling, 76, was found about a mile-and-a-half from the home he was visiting. His body was located in a wooded area, and the family has been notified.

The Tucker County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police, Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department, local citizens and other crews and volunteers from West Virginia and surroudning states took part in the search.

“(The) Tucker County Sheriff’s Office, West Virginia State Police (and the) Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department extend their deepest sympathies to Mr. Epling’s family,” a press release from Tucker County officials reads. “The last few days have been very difficult for Mr. Epling’s family, and officials are thankful for the outpouring of support from the local community. Officials also want to thank all of the many rescue organizations from across West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Mr. Epling’s body was first seen from a West Virginia National Guard helicopter.”

“Mr. Epling’s family expressed their gratitude for the all the volunteers, police officers and businesses assisting in the search,” the press release continued.”
