BUCKHANNON -- A national chain discount tool retail store - Harbor Freight Tools - is tentatively scheduled to open in Buckhannon in mid-September.
In November of last year, it was announced that the store would be coming to the Buckhannon area, located in the plot of land near Lowe's along Route 20 at 3 Northridge Drive.
Now, roughly eight months since the announcement, Harbor Freight is tentatively scheduled to host a soft opening on Aug. 28, with the grand opening tentatively scheduled for Sept. 12, according to Lisa Hartley, a representative for the company.
The structure will be 15,000 square feet, and feature a wide range of discounted tools. The chain store stocks more than 7,000 items in categories including automotive, air and power tools, shop equipment and hand tools.
The retail store is described as selling "high quality tools" at "ridiculously low prices."
"Harbor Freight Tools is a favorite of automotive and truck repair shops, government agencies, schools, manufacturers, contractors and tool enthusiasts who want top-quality and great selection and value," reads the company's web page.
"We're thrilled to be opening our seventh Harbor Freight Tools store in West Virginia and very pleased by the warm welcome we've received in Buckhannon," said Eric Smidt, president of Harbor Freight Tools. "At Harbor Freight, we're all about delivering high quality tools at ridiculously low prices. We do it by manufacturing our tools at the same factories as the expensive brands, but we cut out the middle man and pass the savings on to our customers.
Smidt's statement continues, "We've also invested millions of dollars to build and operate our own state-of-the-art quality test labs to ensure that we're constantly driving quality at the lowest possible price."
In the next coming weeks -- on July 10, 11 and 17 -- a job fair will be held as the company searches for folks to work at the Buckhannon location. The fairs will be from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Upshur County Public Library.
Hartley noted the company is looking for about 35-40 employees to work at the Buckhannon branch.
