New facility opens to patients

ELKINS -- Mon Health's newest heart and vascular facility began treating area patients on Monday after roughly nine months of development and construction on the state-of-the-art health center.

Since 1994, Mon Health has served community members with heath and vascular needs in Randolph County and other nearby communities at their location on Main Street in Elkins. Now, the facility will be equipped with advanced technology, saving patients from traveling to other areas for treatment.

Located on Railroad Avenue, the new 8,000 square-foot facility will be a critical component to community members with heart conditions as the center is complete with exam rooms, cardiac rehabilitation and diagnostic testing for patients.

The cardiac rehabilitation will be furnished with two treadmills, weights and other cardio exercise and testing equipment. Patients can begin utilizing the cardiac rehab in roughly two weeks.

"This is what we're really excited about. This is why we wanted to come here and it's really, really exciting for us," said Dr. Krishna Bingi, who will serve as the center's cardiologist along with Dr. Morgan Lyons.

Patients who have experienced a heart attack, heart failure or possess a heart stent will benefit from the cardiac rehab gym, Bingi said.

"The cardiac rehab (gym) is really, really important to prevent future events -- future heart attacks, future strokes, future heart failure -- because we are really, really big into the preventive programs right now rather than just catch the event," he said.

An additional feature to the facility is the nuclear stress lab, which will not be open to patients for another several months.

Bingi noted the facility will be valuable not only to patients in Randolph County but in surrounding counties as well.

"It is more of a convenient location," he said.

With an off-street parking lot, Bingi said the facility will better serve patients as opposed to the former location on Main Street, which was smaller in size and had limited parking.

"People can easily come and get their cardiac rehab done, get their stress test and get all of their testing done," he said.

Lyons said the location was a good choice, noting the facility has a lot to offer.

"We're going to be able to do a lot for the community that we weren't able to do before," he said.
