THOMAS -- In the midst of the winter's white, a festival of color will take place on the top of the mountain in Tucker County Saturday.
The Thomas Art Walk, an annual tradition in Tucker, is this year participating in showing solidarity with the Women's March in Washington D.C. Each gallery participating in this year's Art Walk will be donating a portion of their proceeds to a charity of their choice in support of the Women's March.
"My favorite things about the Art Walk is that all the galleries get a fresh new body of work up and are able to welcome more new artists into the community," said Morgan Smith of Lamplight Gallery.
A host of stores and businesses will be open for all to explore during the Art Walk. TipTop restaurant will be hosting a new installation from local artist Michael Doig.
The Art Walk tradition of having galleries unite is intended to make the town more vibrant.
"This came about by way of a lot of us wanting to participate in the annual Women's March in D.C.," said Nathan Bake of the White Room. "We realized that it might be more powerful to align some of our energies and what we are doing as well with that movement and the general global movement towards better equality. It feels great to a part of it. Equality is something that we have always driven for."
Activities during the Art Walk include:
Lamplight Gallery -- Opening Reception for "Feels" from Sarah Goodyear at 6:30 p.m.
Gradient Project Space -- "Dutchman's Puzzle" by Kimberly Joy Trathen; one-night showcase of zine work by Emily Prentice; text work in the studio by Gina Mamone
Talking Leaves -- The new letterpress studio next to Mud Ceramics will be printing posters and letting folks see their space beginning at 5 p.m.
The White Room Art Gallery-- 'In Solidarity,' a group exhibition by resident artists Seth Pitt, Nathan Baker, Kimberly Joy and John Ryan Brubaker.
