Elkins Rotary Club honored for 100-year milestone

ELKINS -- The Elkins Rotary Club has been honored for its 100 years of service to the local community.
On Monday, officials announced that Rotary International President Barry Rassin presented the Elkins Rotary Club with a 100-year service plaque during a ceremony Saturday.
Six other clubs in West Virginia also received the distinction.
In addition to the plaque, the Elkins Rotary Club also was given a "100 years of service" sign that can be posted at the city limits of town, notifying travelers of the club's history of service to the area.
Founded in 1918, the Elkins Rotary Club has been an essential piece of the city's progress.
Last year the club broke ground on a new amphitheater being constructed in Elkins Town Square.
The club currently sponsors the Elkins High School Interact Club as well as the Davis & Elkins College Rotaract Club.
The Elkins Rotary Club also hosts local opportunities for the community such as the free blood and health screening that took place in September, and offering free atlases to fifth-graders in our local schools.
In addition to the various projects and organizations Rotary assists with, the club invites local community business owners and officials come to their meetings each week to share information about themselves and their industry.
