ELKINS -- Each of the Randolph County Commissioners will be serving on one of the boards of the Convention and Visitors Bureau located within the county.
The new assignments were made at Wednesday's regular commission meeting, held one day early because of the Fourth of July holiday.
County Commissioner David Kesling will be serving on the board for the new Beverly Heritage Convention and Visitors Bureau after his appointment was approved Wednesday. His term on the board will last from July 1 to Dec. 31 of this year.
"We believe that the Beverly Heritage Center has met the requirements to be considered a true CVB in the county. As a result, they will be receiving a portion of the 50 percent (of hotel/motel tax funding). They have asked that we would appoint one of our own to be a part of their board, and we have agreed to do that," County Commission President Mark Scott said at the meeting.
As a result of Kesling's new appointment, Scott will be filling his place on the board of the Elkins Depot Welcome Center, while Commissioner Chris See will be taking over Scott's position on the board of the Randolph County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The commission's new distribution of the county's hotel/motel tax revenue, with the new fiscal year having begun on July 1, will provide 70 percent of the funding to the Depot Welcome Center, 25 percent to the Beverly Heritage Center and 5 percent to the Randolph County CVB.
The next meeting of the Randolph County Commission will be at 1:30 p.m. July 18 in the James Cain Courthouse Annex.
