ELKINS -- The Inter-Mountain has created a vivid keepsake of this year's 125th anniversary of Elkins High School -- a hardback book memorializing Tiger history.
The 150-page book, which contains hundreds of vintage photographs, traces the history of EHS from 1894 to 2019.
Full-length articles provide the story of the Tiger sports programs, as well as remembrances from former Elkins High teachers, coaches and band directors.
Full pages are devoted to legendary EHS figures such as coach Frank Wimer and band directors Clark Siedhoff and Jack Basil.
Tiger sporting greats from the school's past are profiled in full-page detail, including Roy Simms, Alexis Basil, Scott Shepherd, Ryan Williams, Junior Lawrence, Kayla Smith, Clint Crosston and Nathan Fields.
Legends from earlier decades such as Albert "Sleepy" Glenn, Earl "Duck" Grimm, Gene "The Toe" Simmons and NFL All-Pro Marshall "Biggie" Goldberg share prominent positions in the book alongside recent standouts like Letitia Propst, Cam Viney, George Triplett and Elliot White, who just this year became the all-time leading scorer for the EHS boys basketball program.
Pages are devoted to the history of the EHS band, cheerleaders, clubs and homecoming courts. A section of the book details the effects World War II had on the school.
Photos and articles reveal the story of the multiple buildings which have housed Elkins High School over the past 125 years.
The school's principals, coaches and prominent teachers are profiled throughout the book.
