ELKINS -- An Elkins man is facing a domestic battery felony charge.
Kenneth John Helmick, 48, has been charged with domestic battery -- third offense. Randolph County Magistrate Rob Elbon set bond at $20,000 cash or property.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Randolph County Sheriff's Deputy A.B. Beverly, the investigating officer investigated a reported domestic battery at the Tygart Valley Apartment complex on Aug. 1. He was told that the suspect, Helmick, had just left the scene.
A woman told Beverly that Helmick had been drinking and began to "wave a knife around, then told her to do what he said." She said Helmick put the knife down, and then hours later "struck her in the mouth." She told police she walked outside the apartment, but he grabbed her by her shirt and drug her back inside, and then he left, the report states.
Later the same day, officers returned to the apartment and were told Helmick had returned and "grabbed her shirt and pulled on it aggressively," according to the complaint.
After looking into Helmick's criminal history, officers learned that he has at least two domestic battery convictions, in 1999 and 2018.
