Linda Taylor Seffan of Elkins and her sisters have a tradition that goes back to their childhood of making ‘floats’ out of shoe boxes in honor of the Mountain State Forest Festival. This year’s shoebox floats are displayed on this page, including a float for Maid Silvia, a float depicting the MSFF princesses as chocolate candies, and a float using this year’s MSFF theme colors.

I remember when, in elementary school, we would make floats for the Mountain State Forest Festival out of shoe boxes and Maid Silvia would come to our school, along with Smokey Bear, to meet the students and help with judging of the floats.
For fun, my sisters that live in town, Liz, Jamie and Chrissy, and I decided to have our own float competition this year.
None of us remember it being so difficult as a child and decided our mom must have helped us.
