New local racing team formed

PARSONS — With a new racing season right around the corner, riders are fixing their machines, getting new gear, and lining up everything they will need. Racing is an expensive sport and any help you can get is appreciated. Anthony Powell, a resident of Tunnelton, decided to help a few riders out for this year and create a racing team. This racing team will be based off a variety of sponsors to help them out with the cost of racing.

“Most race teams consist of Pro riders, older proven riders and young up and comers,” Powell said. “This sport is driven by how much you have in your pocket and there are some riders, especially here in West Virginia, that don’t get the resources to promote themselves and get the attention they deserve on a national level.”

“That’s what this team was created to do, mixed with a few family members and friends. I just want to help create a fun environment while doing what we love,” Powell added.

The name of the racing team Powell has created is Kapow Racing.

“I chose the name ‘Kapow Racing’ because when my youngest son Zander was little, he pronounced my last name as ‘Kapow’ instead of Powell,” laughed Anthony.

Malik Powell finished fifth last year in the GNCC series and has won multiple 50cc championships. He is one of the youngest riders on the team.

It is a team of dirtbike riders of various ages and talent. The Kapow Racing team consists of Malik Powell, Zander Powell, Anthony Powell and Jay Layton — all of Tunnelton, plus Christ Farley of Reedsville, Eric Ross of Elkins and Jameson Hardy of Parsons. They are also awaiting confirmation from one more rider.

The team is currently seeking any businesses, families or individuals who would like to donate money toward the team to help them with their racing needs, such as entry fees, transponders and gas.

The team already has support from Mountain Motorworks of Coalton, 343 Graphix out of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, B&J Auto Sales and Sandhill LLC. Kapow Racing plans to race as many races from the GNCC series as possible along with the local races.
