EHS’ Romans named Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year

ELKINS -- Elkins High School's Daniel Romans was recently named the Big 10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

Romans, a linebacker, also was a first-team selection on the Class AA all-state squad after leading the Tigers in tackles.

Teammate Austin Storey, a senior, was named to the all-Big 10 first team as a defensive back.

Other area players named to the first unit were Philip Barbour's Chase Collier (utility) and Damien Gonzales (DB) and Buckhannon-Upshur's Andrew Herron (LB).

Area players on the second team included Elkins' Thomas Talkington (RB) and Chance Burdette (DL), Philip Barbour's Brandon Kyle (OL), Kiyan Bartlett (DB) and Lincoln Mayle (DL) and B-U's Ryan Smith (OL).

The league's Player of the Year was Fairmont Senior quarterback Connor Neal, the Offensive Player of the Year was Bridgeport running back Jake Bowen, the Co-Linemen of the Year were Fairmont Senior's Zach Frazier and Liberty's Jaden Rollyson and the Coach of the Year was Fairmont Senior's Nick Bartic.

Fairmont Senior captured the Class AA state title.
