PETERSBURG -- Kahner Turner put in the first 15 points for Petersburg on Wednesday night on his way to a game-high 25 points during a 77-57 win over Pendleton County.
After a 2-2 start early in the first, Turner put in the next 13 to put the Vikings out in front, 15-2.
Adding 11 more, Petersburg went to the second quarter with a 26-4 advantage never to be relinquished.
"I thought we came out early with a lot of intensity on defense and set the tone for a big first quarter," Vikings coach Todd Heare said. "Kahner Turner really started off hot offensively for us, and helped us build a nice early lead.
"After that quick start, we continued with a great team effort. It was nice to see us take a step in the right direction by not allowing the opponent to make things close again like we have done in the past."
Pendleton County went toe-for-toe in the second with a 13-all wash toward a 39-17 halftime deficit.
Winning the third and fourth quarters by a point each was too little too late for the visiting Wildcats.
Both teams got out and ran in the third for a 21-20 tally and a 19-18 verdict in the fourth frame.
Turner hit for a pair of treys and was a perfect 7 of 7 at the foul line for Petersburg. Senior Tyce Wisnewski fired in 17 points, while fellow senior Peyton Sindledecker also reached double digits with 10 in the scoring column.
The Vikings also received nine from Dalton Lough and eight apiece from Hunter Pool and Jacob Hartman.
Draven Roberts had 16 points for Pendleton County.
Timmy Thorne hit for 15, while sophomore Bailey Thompson inked 12 points and Marcus Sites chipped in with eight.
Petersburg (8-3) will be on the road today at Berkeley Springs for a PVC battle against the Indians at 7:30 p.m.
Pendleton County slipped to 6-6 and will host Tucker County on Saturday for a PVC encounter.
The junior varsity contest will start at 6:15 p.m., followed by the varsity tilt.
