PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour senior Levi MacAdam poured in a career-high 29 points at the Colts’ Corral on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to keep sectional rival Berkeley Springs from escaping with a 66-65 verdict.

The visiting Indians torched the cylinders with a total of 14 shots made from behind the arc.

Using an 11-1 run to start the first canto, BSHS jumped ahead early before Philip Barbour trimmed the deficit to three points, 19-16, to start the second quarter. The hosts won the second period, 15-14, to still trail, 33-31 at the break.

Using a 19-13 tally in third stanza, the Colts carried a 50-46 edge into the final frame before Berkeley put up a 20-15 effort to seal the decision for the winners.

“We were up by five with about two-and-a-half minutes left in the game,” Colts coach Marcus Johnson said. “I thought we might have enough momentum to play through and hold on. But they banked in a couple of big threes late, and it came down to foul shots.

“We were up by one with under 30 seconds. They got a bucket to go back ahead and we couldn’t convert on an inbound play we had called. We just didn’t play very good defense at all. I don’t know if it was playing three days in row or what, but it was just a total breakdown on defense for us.”

Senior Kiyan Bartlett was a second of three players to reach double figures with 13 markers for PBHS while also snaring five caroms. Sophomore guard Jed Hawkins hit for 12 points, including a pair of triples.

Seniors Colton Criss and Noah Matlick chipped in four points apiece, while Matlick also handed out four assists.

Berkeley Springs junior EJ Barkley fired in a team-high 22 points off of six buckets made from 3-point range.

Nate Bland totaled 15 points (5 treys) and Payton Mann hit a trio of treys for nine markers.

Philip Barbour (8-11) is on a four-game losing skid and is slated to host senior night on Tuesday.

The Colts will entertain Big 10 Conference rival Lewis County (7-13) at 7:30 p.m.

Junior varsity matters are scheduled to tip the evening off at 6 p.m. when PB’s 16-0 JV squad will take on the LCHS Minutemen.

Starting at $3.92/week.
