HAMBLETON -- Tucker County put an end to a five game losing streak with an 88-54 decision over Potomac Valley Conference opponent Union Monday night to put the Mountain Lions into the next round of the Class A Region II Section 2 tournament.
Next up for Tucker is a Wednesday night game when the Mountain Lions are slated to host PVC rival East Hardy at 7 p.m. on the mountain.
Tucker County bested the Cougars by a small margin in the last two meetings between the squads, 52-49 in Baker most recently, and 62-47 at TCHS before that.
"It was a good win," Mountain Lions coach Jim Ambrose said. "We got everybody in the scoring column tonight (Monday). It's always a good thing when that happens."
After jumping out to a 23-3 lead in the opening frame, Tucker County stayed in the driver's seat to have a 43-21 cushion at the intermission break. Continuing to rotate the Tucker County bench in, the winners entered the final frame with 70-31 tally.
Wyatt Betler, a sophomore, recorded a career high 23 points and 7 caroms for the black and gold. Tucker County senior Raheim Lamb also posted a career best with 13 points, and wrangled in 9 boards.
Trey Key, also a 10th grader, came off the bench with a pair of treys toward 10 total in the scoring column for Tucker County.
Leading the Union Tigers was freshman sharp shooter Daniel Savage with a game high 25 points. Savage torched the rim with a total of 7 shots made from behind the arc.
Logan Kuhn was the lone senior to start the game for UHS, and dialed up 4 triples to garner 12 points.
Tipoff time at TCHS on Wednesday is slated for 7 p.m. when the Mountain Lions are slated to entertain East Hardy.
The winner of that game will advance to a sectional title tilt slated for Friday.
