Cavs drain 14 treys in G-MAC road triumph

ELKINS  — Darryl Straughter knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points as Walsh University rolled past Davis & Elkins, 85-64, Thursday night in G-MAC action at the McDonnell Center.

J.T. Schumate added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Cavaliers (16-7, 11-4 G-MAC), who stormed out to a 41-19 lead at intermission.

Conner Wess also reached double digits for Walsh with 12 points.

Trevor English had a big night for the Senators (5-15, 2-11) in a losing effort. The junior center finished with game-highs in both scoring (28) and rebounding (14).

Edmund Parker was the only other D&E player in double digits with 12 points.

Walsh connected on 50 percent of its field goals, canning 32 of 64 attempts, while hitting 14 of 36 from beyond the arc for a 38.9 percent clip.

The Senators, meanwhile, were 24 of 56 from the floor for 42.9 percent and 8 of 19 from 3-point land for 42.1 percent.

The Cavaliers held a 35-32 rebounding edge and committed just seven turnovers on the night.

The Senators will return to action Saturday when they entertain Malone for a noon contest.

Walsh, meanwhile, will venture up the road to Alderson Broaddus on Saturday for a 4 p.m. G-MAC encounter .
