CLARKSBURG -- Philip Barbour cruised to a 14-1 win in its season opener against Big 10 Conference opponent Liberty on Tuesday after taking care of business in just three innings of action.
Sophomore ace Amanda Reed picked up the win on the mound, striking out four and walking just one. Reed was charged with one hit and one run in the contest.
Liberty freshman pitcher Haley Younkins shouldered the loss for the Lady Mountaineers, allowing seven hits, throwing a trio of strikeouts and walking one.
Philip Barbour ended up being the benefactor of a total of seven errors committed by LHS, most of them occurring in the top of the second frame when the Lady Colts dented the scoreboard with 11 runs to be up for good with an 11-1 tally.
The Lady Colts tacked on three more runs in the third to put an early end to the varsity scrum.
All total, five different diamond dwellers drove in runs for Philip Barbour.
Recording RBIs for the Lady Colts were Marissa Schiefelbein (2), Reed, Katey Gallo, Erica Simon and Jess Metheney.
Philip Barbour is slated to be on the road at sectional foe Berkeley Springs.
The Lady Colts are then slated to visit Bridgeport on Friday for a Big 10 Conference encounter and return home on Saturday for a doubleheader against Tucker County.
